SUPPORT THE MILITARY

Financial Education for Military Members

The GoVA Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, offers financial education to military families for free, thanks to donations from sponsors!

Why Military Families Need Your Support Today

The White House and VA recognize the military community as an underserved population:

  • 40% qualify as Low to Moderate Income (LMI)
  • 25% of military families are food insecure, according to the USDA
  • Service members have twice as much debt as their civilian counterparts
  • Less than half of military families have savings for a financial emergency
  • Military spouses struggle with an unemployment rate 5 times the national average
  • For Veterans, financial insecurity is one of the major predictors of suicide

The GoVA Foundation’s mission is to empower military families to make strong money choices by providing access to smart financial tools. We partner with banks through CRA programs to improve the military community’s access to financial tools and to lower barriers to banking.

Our financial education activities are qualified Community Reinvestment Act programs.

A military family planning to buy their first home compared interest rates, learned about mortgage loan options, read a free credit report, and got personalized assistance from the Concierge Center to complete their loan application.

A military spouse preparing for deployment used the tools to build a household budget, pay down debt, and save up for a vacation, while using the job search tools to improve their resume.

A Veteran planning for retirement learned how their military TSP stacks up against investment plans, and used tools to calculate for their child’s education and save for major goals.

A military entrepreneur found courses on starting a business, accessing start-up capital, and business taxes.

Making a Difference for Military Families

These financial tools have a positive impact on the financial wellness, mental health, and readiness of military families, particularly those with lower income.

That’s why we established the GoVA Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to improve the military community’s access to financial tools. All donations to the GoVA Foundation go directly into the scholarship program, which provides free membership to The Edge.

CRA Programs for Banks

A $300 grant provides a scholarship for a military member to access The Edge tools for one year (at a discounted $24.99 monthly rate).

Banks that support our financial literacy program are eligible to earn CRA consideration because we serve LMI individuals in low-income census tracks near military bases. We provide the data to quantify your impact from investment, service, or outreach.
